BSW’s Warrior acoustic fence panel range reduces noise pollution levels through either sound reflection or absorption. The systems are laboratory tested, effective and long-lasting barriers that significantly reduce noise levels and public complaints.
Warrior panels are suitable for roads, motorways, industrial and commercial sites, medical and learning facilities, or any environment where noise mitigation is a requirement.
BSW can design, manufacture and supply modular panels, from one metre high, that can stack on top of one another to reach heights of up to eight metres.
How does it work?
The Warrior acoustic range combines sound damping technology within the panel’s core with a robust surface. This results in a large percentage of the sound source being reflected away.
The sound source (unwanted noise) produces sound waves or energy that is blocked by the barrier. A noise shadow area is created behind the barrier and the direct sound travels above. Remaining sound, that is heard, is known as indirect or diffracted sound. It is this reduced sound that provides more comfortable sound levels.
Where has it worked?
The BSW Timber Systems team recently designed and installed Warrior absorptive panels at the Fort William mill where there was a need for noise mitigation for a nearby village.
Three separate areas of panels needed to be fitted and fixed in exact positions around existing conveyor belts, extraction ducting and machinery.
Paul Holloway FIOC, General Manager for BSW Timber Systems, oversaw the project. He said: “This was all designed in-house by our team and it manufactured by our highly skilled workforce at our manufacturing facility at Dalbeattie.
“After visiting the Fort William mill and measuring the areas, we worked on some preliminary designs and discussed how our system worked with the customer.
"Our biggest challenge with the design was that in each area there was a fall in ground level from one end of the column to the other. We had to ensure we kept the tops of the panels consistently level - and every panel was either a different width or height, or both, and had to be millimetre perfect!"
Ewen Smith, Engineering Manager at BSW Fort William, said: “From a customer’s perspective, dealing with Paul and the team at BSW Timber Systems was excellent from start to finish. Although it might sound like a relatively simple project to complete, installing this barrier in a live environment around a working sawmill was challenging.
“Collaborating with their team at an early stage ensured that the steelwork supporting the panels was designed to suit the three-stack high panel system. When the 50 panels were delivered to site, they were all clearly identified with their location number and position in the frame, ensuring an efficient and smooth installation.”
