With a business built on nature, the way we act affects us all.
That’s why we source our material from well-established and managed sources. All our timber is FSC® certified. Chain of Custody certification traces the wood from forest to distribution. We use 100% of the log we receive, and our installed boiler capacity group-wide has the potential to replace in the region of 55,000 tonnes of Carbon per annum.
BSW have obtained group approval for the TTF Responsible Purchasing Policy. The policy, which is recognised by our major customers, is a tool that further enhances BSW’s reputation as a responsible, environmentally aware supplier to the timber trade.
Forest Stewardship Council® UK Mills : BSW manufacture FSC® Certified Timber Products in the UK. All UK mills have continuous improvement targets for the percentage of UK timber sourced from certified forests.
BSW Latvia : BSW have FSC® Chain of Custody certification and label part of our output as certified under the FSC® Credit System. Under this system, a proportion of the mill's output that corresponds to the proportion of certified logs coming into the mill can be labelled as certified.

Trees play a vital role in the fight against climate change - they capture CO2 and lock it away.
Type: Softwood Volume: 125cm3 Density: 0.33g/cm3 | Mass: 41.25g (Oven Dry) 0.020625 Kg C 0.07525 Kg CO2 Energy: 0.33g/cm3 |
We need this amount of wood to lock up the emission generated by each of the following :
Boiling a kettle of water (1.4 Litres). The energy required to heat 1g of water from 15 to 100°C = 355.7J | Running a typical ‘A’ rated fridge/freezer for 3 hours An ‘A’ rated fridge/freezer typically emits = 219.14 Kg CO2 in a year | Driving a moped/scooter for 1 km Emissions from a moped/scooter (<125CC) typically 72.9g CO2/km |
Watching a 32” LCD TV for just under an hour LCD TV’s have a typical ‘power on’ consumption = 163W | Modern router powered for 1 day A modern router uses approximately 6W of power. 6W x 60 seconds x 60 minutes = 21600J/hour | Using a halogen security light for half an hour A typical halogen security light has a rating = 300W |
The UK Green Building Council is campaigning for a sustainable built environment. As a charity and membership organisation, we facilitate dialogue between industry and Government to promote greener approaches in the construction sector.
